How to Spend 72 Hours in New Orleans

PC: Kimberley Bueno-Schonig

Tom and I spent about 72 hours in New Orleans one weekend and it was absolutely amazing! We’d like to go back and do some more exploring, but I figured I’d write out all the places, shops, and foods that I think you should check out if you ever find yourself visiting New Orleans!

Oysters & Bloody Mary’s

If you’re a lover of seafood, particularly oysters {paired with a bloody mary -or two} – you’ll be in heaven in New Orleans! Check these spots out if you’re looking for oysters!!

Organic Banana

This spot is located in the French Quarter shopping area and honestly – you need to make sure you stop here because we did not want to leave once we tasted their oysters and bloody mary’s. They make their bloody mary’s from scratch and you get to watch their amazing staff chuck the oysters!

Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar – Bienville

This spot was recommended to us by our driver and honestly I’m so glad she shared it with us because they have amazing charred-grilled oysters that are too die for! Get the one with jalapenos and cheese because that stuff is bomb!! They also had pretty good service and that’s always a plus!

Non-Oyster Food Spots

Toast

We were honestly so happy to have found this place because they are THE BEST breakfast spot in town – hands down! We absolutely love them and honestly the service was so great! I recommend sitting at the bar and making sure you reserve a table because there’s usually a line out the door.

Cafe Du Monde

You may have already heard about this place because this place is famous for their beignets! Honestly, we understand why!! Personally, we were not drooling over the coffee, but it was good to have with the beignets. Bring cash because they are CASH only and you may have to wave down the waiters to get service. There is definitely a line after 8/9AM, so be sure to get there early so you don’t need to wait! Also, if you’re traveling with your pet – they are pet friendly and our doggos loved being part of the experience!

Dat Dog

This spot is so great if you’re looking for a late night snack or if you’re craving some yummy hot dogs {they also have vegan/vegetarian options}! There’s a few of them in New Orleans, so if you see one definitely check it out!

Superior Seafood & Oysters

Unfortunately, Tom and I were unable to have a full experience here {due to unrelated circumstances}, but we highly highly recommend this place – and locals do too! Be sure to have a reservation because this place gets packed! This is a great spot if you’d like to have a date night with your special someone or even if you want to treat yourself to a great dinner.

Shopping

French Quarter

We personally enjoyed walking around and shopping in the French Quarter! We got all of our goodies from this area and honestly we wouldn’t mind if we just spend our entire trip here.

The Rink

If you’re near The Rink, you should definitely check this place out, but I wouldn’t go out of your way to just go here. It’s a pretty small spot, but definitely worth checking out if you’re nearby. I will note that there is a restroom here, but you need to put in a quarter.
